the Irish Pub

One of Center City Philadelphia’s favorite watering holes – the Irish Pub – is hosting our Galactic Philadelphia readings. It’s located at 2007 Walnut Street, Philadelphia 19103, a block west of Rittenhouse Square, and very easy to reach by train, car, bus or subway.

If you’re driving or walking, use this Google map to help plan your route:

TRAINS
Both 30th Street Station (30th Street & JFK Blvd) and Suburban Station (17th Street & JFK Blvd) are close to the pub. If you’re coming from out of town, your train station will be 30th Street. Please check the Google Map above if you want to walk from the station to the pub.

CITY BUSES, TRAMS & SUBWAYS
Philadelphia’s SEPTA public transportation system is quite good, and its routes blanket Center City very nicely. You can pay $2.25 cash fare on buses and at most trams or subway stations, so you don’t have worry about getting tokens or cards.

We’ve found the app Citymapper to be helpful in finding the best routes from wherever we are, as well as estimating departure/arrival times, and even how much Uber would cost to cover the same distance

PARKING
Parking in Philadelphia doesn’t have to be an adventure, but it’s rarely cheap. So it’s useful to first drive around for a couple of blocks on the off chance that you might find street parking. Be sure to check the signs for allowed hours, and use the meters when necessary. Meters are green boxes – usually one on each side of the block – where you can use a credit card or coins to purchase x number of hours or minutes. It will then print out a slip that you have to put on your dashboard.

Here are some of your best (i.e., closest) parking garage options:

  • 20th & Sansom Streets. (The closest lot, it’s a block away)
  • 2107 Sansom Street (2 blocks)
  • 1845 Walnut (2 longer blocks but it’s on Rittenhouse Square, so it’s a nice walk)
  • 19th Street between Market & Chestnut Streets (2 ½ blocks) – open 24 hours

FOOD & DRINK AVAILABLE
The Irish Pub has a great selection of craft and independent brewery beers, plus a very nice menu for dinner or snacks. They offer $5 drink specials for a select craft beer, $5 house wine and $5.50 mixed well drinks.
